Vanessa Sifuentes

OAKLAND SQUAD

Vanessa Sifuentes has served as High School Network Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District since July of 2022. As HS Network Superintendent, Ms. Sifuentes is responsible for leading the High School Network, Linked Learning Office, and Oakland Adult and Career Education. She brings a depth of personal and professional experience to her job and is committed to providing all OUSD’s students a rigorous and relevant education that prepares them for a broad set of post-secondary options.



Prior to her current role, Ms. Sifuentes served as High School Network Executive Director of Instruction from 2016-2022, where she supervised a diverse set of high schools and led strategic planning for sites undergoing transformation. She was also responsible for coaching and supervising principals, as well as leading professional development for leadership teams network-wide.



Ms. Sifuentes joined OUSD in 2015 as a High School Network Partner and has since been a significant contributor to the district’s efforts to increase graduation and A-G completion rates, as well as the build out of Linked Learning pathways.



Before joining OUSD, Ms. Sifuentes served as Managing Director of Teach For America - Oakland where she led a team of coaches responsible for the support and development of over 100 educators across the city. She came to this work after having served as a middle and high school principal in her hometown of San Jose, California and began her teaching career serving 6th-12th grade students in East Oakland.



Ms. Sifuentes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of California, Berkeley.
